What Is Depression?

Depression is a normal mood disorder. It causes feeling of sadness. It is very  common and serious medical illness. Depression has negative effects on how you feel,the way of your thinking and your acts. But it is treatable. Depression has great effects on emotional and physical health. Teenager's life is full of ups and down. Mostly teenagers face emotional disorders. Experters research tell us that one in 10 teenagers in U.S faces depression at some point.



                


Depression Is Different From Sadness

Deaths, loss of job, breakup in relationship are difficult situations to face for a person. These are natural feelings of grief and sadness. But sadness feelings comes in waves and may be normalized after some time. But if you feel depressed from last many weeks, your mood is going down and down with the passage of time. It is depression.

Signs & Symptoms

When you feel disappointed or miserable,you lose interest in daily workout, having less ability to perform your duties. All these feelings show that you have depression. Here is a list of symptoms that anyone faces in depression. 

  • Lack of energy
  • Unexplained pains & aches
  • Moving and speaking slowly 
  • Avoid to going outside
  • Avoid family & friends
  • Anxiety
  • Feeling tired all time
  • Mostly frustrated

Causes

It is very difficult to dignosed the causes of depression. But some of these factors may involved in depression, such as
Inherited traits
If any person's blood relatives have depression then that person also faces this situation.
Hormones
Changes in balance of hormones may caused depression. It may be the result of pregnancy and may be from thyroid problems.
Biological factors
People may have face depression due to the physical change in their brains.
Brain chemistry
Changes in the functions of neurotransmitters may play a vital role in depression.

Treatments

Depression or mental disorder is treatable. About 80 to 90 % people are recovered. Some treatment methods are discussed here.
Medication
If Brain chemistry is involved in one person's depression. In this case antidepressants may be prescribed.
Psycho  therapy
Therapy is used to treat a mild or moderate depression. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
CBT has been found more effective in the treatment of depression.
Electro convulsive therapy (ECT)
It is a medical and most commonly used therapy for the treatment of depression.        

Self Help

Depression is illness and it may take a long time treatment. But there are a number of things people can do to reduce depression.
  • Regular exercise
  • Creat positive feelings
  • Take enough quality of sleep
  • Eating healthy diet
  • Avoide smoking & alcohol
  • Contact with family members & friends in crisis
Conclusions

It is concluded that depression is illness. Teenagers may faces this situation most now a days. If a person  don't show any interest in tthe treatment of depression tgen it may be possiblty of suicide. So it mist be stopped at early stage by using self help techniques. If depression is severe then must contact with psychiatrist.
